Tree Planting Event – NHS Forests

Dig in for Nature! Tree Planting Event at Spring Orchard Surgery

Calling all green thumbs and nature lovers! We’re excited to announce a tree planting event at Spring Orchard Surgery on Wednesday, 22nd January, at around 1pm.

Join us for a chance to get your hands dirty (in the best way possible!) and help us contribute to the fantastic NHS Forest project. We’ll be planting trees on the hill behind the surgery, creating a beautiful new haven for wildlife and improving the local environment for everyone.

Why are we planting trees?

Trees are vital for our health and wellbeing, and the NHS Forest project highlights the numerous benefits they bring.1 Research shows that access to green spaces can improve both our physical and mental health.2 Spending time in nature can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and even boost our immune systems.3 Planting trees also helps to:

  • Improve air quality: Trees absorb pollutants like nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter, helping to clean the air we breathe.4
  • Reduce the urban heat island effect: Trees provide shade and cool the surrounding environment, which is especially important in urban areas.5
  • Enhance biodiversity: Trees provide habitats for a wide range of wildlife, supporting local ecosystems.6
  • Help combat climate change: Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, helping to mitigate the effects of climate change.7

These benefits are backed up by research and are at the heart of the NHS Forest’s mission to create green spaces on and around NHS land.8 By planting trees at Spring Orchard Surgery, we’re actively contributing to a healthier environment for our community.

Even if you don’t fancy wielding a spade, we’d love for you to come along! There’ll be plenty of tea, cake, and friendly faces to share the afternoon with. It’s a fantastic opportunity to chat with your neighbours, get some fresh air, and learn more about the NHS Forest initiative. The event will last approximately 2 hours, but feel free to pop by just for a quick cuppa and say hello – we’d love to see you!

Thinking of getting stuck in?

Fantastic! If you’d like to actively participate in the planting, we recommend wearing suitable clothing for the outdoors. Wellies or boots are a must, as the slope can get a bit muddy, and gloves will protect your green fingers.
